DOUBLE OAK, Texas — Just before midnight on Aug. 7, Double Oak's Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to deny the special use permit (SUP) application that would have allowed a property owner to install a helistop on their property.

This comes after more than 70 speakers voiced their displeasure with the SUP. The town council will still take up the issue on August 18. It would take a supermajority vote, four of five votes, for the application to proceed.

It was a long and contentious night in the quiet town of Double Oak, where a public hearing drew an unusually large and passionate crowd — all to speak out against a proposed helipad .
