TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A man died when he was hit by a palm tree while trimming it in the Tucson area on Thursday, Aug. 7.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said 40-year-old Javier Palafox was struck by a large section of the tree after it unexpectedly broke while he was trimming it.
The PCSD said it happened around 11:30 a.m., and Palafox died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and no evidence of foul play has been discovered, the PCSD said.
The Northwest Fire District said it responded to the scene, along with the Tucson Fire Department and Golder Ranch Fire District.
It happened at an assisted living facility located near Orange Grove and Oracle roads.
The PCSD said Palafox had been hired to remove dead palm fronds when the accident happened.
