TEMPLE, Texas — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Temple.

Sgt. Bryan Washko with the Texas Department of Public Safety first confirmed to 6 News that an officer-involved shooting took place in downtown Temple. The City of Temple also confirmed the shooting.

According to a spokesperson with the City, officers responded to the scene in downtown Temple around 9:12 p.m. A person was reportedly on the scene telling officers to shoot him while holding a gun to his head.

The City said officers tried to deescalate the situation, asking the man multiple times to lower the gun. Several minutes later, the man allegedly aimed the gun at the officers, causing the officers to fire their weapons.
