Update: The Kansas City Police Department identified the victim as 42-year-old Braisen Cain.

A woman died after a shooting in Kansas City’s Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood, according to a news release from Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Jake Becchina.

Officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Morrell Avenue around 7:50 p.m. on reports of a shooting, Becchina said.

There, they found a woman unresponsive in front of a residence, Becchina said. Officers called emergency responders, who declared the woman dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that the woman had been in front of a residence when she got into an altercation with another person or people, Becchina said. The argument escalated and shots were fired, striking the woman.
