When and why did Maine end the death penalty ?
It seems, from examining records of executions in Maine, that men were likely to be executed based on the testimony of women, both from the records of hanging in Belfast, and the record of executions in Thomaston. Generally, those executed in this country up to the 20th century were men.
Apparently women were considered incapable of murder, and also apparently, nobody in the Maine Legislature had ever read Shakespeare or European history.
