A 28-year-old Army sergeant has been identified as the suspect in the shooting of five soldiers at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

On Wednesday (August 6), officials believe Sgt. Quornelius Radford , a logistics specialist from Jacksonville, Florida, opened fire shortly before 11 a.m. at his workplace on the base, per NBC News .

Radford, assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, has been stationed at Fort Stewart since 2022 and has no record of combat deployment, according to the military. He allegedly used a personal handgun in the shooting and was quickly tackled and subdued by fellow soldiers.

“These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties,” Brig. Gen. John Lubas , commander of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, said in a statement.
