Members of Washington Ruritan Club learned about the history of Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Department during a recent meeting.

Club members traveled to Washington Township Fire Hall after a dinner and short business meeting July 28 at First United Presbyterian Church.

Assistant Fire Chief Don Morrow reviewed the department’s history, which dates to 1950.

The department now has 33 members, with 90% certified at Fire 1 or Fire 2 rating.

Morrow detailed the department and its activities, which include firefighting, emergency medical care and rescue services. About 80% of emergency calls are for medical or rescue. While 90% of its staff already has emergency medical training, the department encourages members to seek higher levels of emergency medical expertise.
