A year ago, three-time defending state champion Kahuku rallied for a 14-13 win over Saint Louis in a bonafide thriller to kick off nonconference play. Kahuku went on to win the OIA title before losing to Saint Louis in the state final, 17-10.

No. 1 Saint Louis (0-0) makes the drive from Kalaepohaku to battle No. 2 Kahuku (0-0) on Saturday night. Varsity kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

A turbulent offseason involving the dismissal of head coach Sterling Carvalho followed. He has since been placed in suspension status. The former Kahuku teacher, now at Hawaii Technology Academy, is fighting the DOE ruling with a lawsuit.

Nihoa Pule, a former Kahuku defensive back, is the interim head coach. Sola Soliai, another longtime assistant coach, is associate head coach.
