UH soccer team picked to win Big West

The Hawaii women’s soccer team was picked to win the Big West Conference, and Rainbow Wahine Nalani Damacion and Amber Gilbert were named to the 11-player preseason coaches’ team, released Thursday.

The Rainbow Wahine finished 12-8-1 overall last season and claimed the school’s first conference regular-season title with an 8-1-1 mark.

The last time Hawaii was picked to win the conference was in 2008.

Damacion, a sophomore, led all freshmen nationally with seven game-winning goals last season and was named Big West Midfielder of the Year.

Gilbert, a senior forward, scored one goal in 2024 and leads the team with 12 career goals.

The Rainbow Wahine return 20 players, including eight who started at least 15 games.
