Amid ongoing complaints about rash e-bike use in the Wood River Valley, Hailey officials last week honed in on reckless e-bike and e-scooter use on city streets—particularly involving kids, and near the intersection of Second Avenue and Bullion Street.

Mayor Martha Burke said during the Hailey City Council’s July 28 meeting that she has seen children—sometimes multiple on one e-bike or e-scooter—“whipping through stop signs like they aren’t there.”

Burke referenced a fatal July 2000 accident at the Bullion Street and Second Avenue intersection that claimed the life of a 9-year-old Hailey resident.

“I don’t want the community to go through that again,” she said.
