Thriller writer Karin Slaughter was profoundly affected by the Atlanta child murders of 1979-81.

After watching others adapt “Will Trent” and “Pieces of Her” for TV, she decided to try it herself with “The Good Daughter.”

“It was just a thought experiment to see if I could do it,” she admits.
