WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) - Are you ready for some flag football?
The Watertown City School District announced that girls flag football will make its debut in the spring of 2026. The Cyclones will be the first north country school to have the sport.
A number of schools in the Syracuse area have the sport, but Watertown will be leading the way for Frontier League schools.
"We're the pilot and our goal is to field a varsity team," Watertown's Interim Athletic Director Mike Lennox said. "We had our initial interest meeting and we have around 30 athletes interested in it."
Lennox added that program is sponsored by the National Football League and will be played under their rules. The playing field will be 30 yards wide and 70 yards long with two 10-yard end zones.
