Some Winnipeg residents say there needs to be more places where they can safely stow their bikes, as a local councillor is calling for the city to explore ways to curb theft.
Nearly 3,000 bikes are stolen every year in Winnipeg, according to the city. It's challenging for owners to recover them even if they know where they are.
Coun. Markus Chambers, chair of the Winnipeg Police Board, said Thursday it's a problem of "epidemic proportions," and that all of the relevant city departments need to get together to come up with a strategy to address the issue.

"Whether it's a combination of building bike lockers, whether it's revisiting the bike bait program where … if an individual steals that, they're immediately arrested," he said
