That was Central Catholic football coach Greg Dempsey’s message this week as the program prepares to face an early gauntlet.

“You’ve got to look around the state, and if you're going to go on a state level, we might as well travel and play the best and give our kids that experience of playing the best,” Dempsey said.

The Fighting Irish begin the year with matchups against Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit, Detroit Cass Tech, and Catholic High School League rival Detroit Catholic Central; two of which they will face at Gallagher Stadium. The Week 2 game against the Technicians will be featured in the annual Amazon Prep Kickoff Classic held at Wayne State University.
