NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A Mississippi district attorney expects the man accused of killing a Loranger mother and her daughter to plead guilty next month, following the family’s wishes to avoid the death penalty.

“It’s a national tragedy when a mother is stabbed 50 times, and her kids are kidnapped to a different state,” said Jody Owens, district attorney in Jackson, Miss. His office is one of three jurisdictions prosecuting Daniel Callihan on multiple charges tied to the kidnapping and double homicide that crossed state lines last summer.

“Each individual district attorney and the feds chose to prosecute Mr. Callihan because of the egregious and horrible nature of this crime,” Owens said.
