A murder suspect is back in Alabama after being apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol at the southern border.

Luis Rey Guerro Martinez, 25, was captured on July 7 in Texas as he attempted to flee to Mexico to escape capital murder charges related to a shooting in Bessemer the day prior.

Investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 800 block of Willow Bend Lane on July 6, where they found Martinez’s brother-in-law, Gumero Olvera Castro, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. The two men are believed to have had an argument that led to the shooting.

Martinez, a resident ot Heuytown, was extradited to Jefferson County on August 5, where he is being held without bond. The charge is listed on the Jefferson County Jail website as capital murder “in the presence of child
