LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sallie Bingham, 88, died Wednesday at her home in New Mexico following a stroke, according to the New York Times.
Her family was considered Louisville royalty, owning a media empire that included the Courier-Journal, WHAS-TV and radio stations, and printing company Standard Gravure.
Bingham criticized her family's management of the companies, which resulted in her being removed from the company's board.
She also pushed for a sale of her shares, but her father sold their empire for $434 million to individual owners in 1986.
The decision was controversial among the family, with her brother, Barry Bingham Jr., calling the sale "a betrayal," the Times said.
Barry Bingham Jr.'s daughter, Emily Bingham told WHAS11 that her father and Sallie Bingham reconnected in the las
