SISSETON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Heavy police presence could be found at Sisseton/North Housing on Thursday morning, where shots were reportedly fired in the area.

Police presence from multiple agencies responded to an active shooter report and determined a male suspect had fired a weapon multiple times.

One adult male victim was struck once by a bullet that came through the window.

They were examined at the scene and subsequently medically cleared.

Roberts County Sheriff Tyler Appel says when police arrived, the suspect was armed and barricaded himself in his residence.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered himself an hour later after Tribal police officers negotiated with a P.A. system.

Appel says the suspect may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.
