SIOUX CITY -- Briar Cliff University has been awarded a $1.75 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The five-year grant will be used to launch a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving college access, retention and graduation for underserved students, according to a news release from the university.

The initial funding for year one is $346,845. Called the Student Support Services grant, it is part of the federal TRIO programs, focused on first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
