ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. (WWTI) - St. Lawrence County officials have declared a burn ban due to the dry weather conditions.

In an announcement from the county on Thursday, they declared a state of emergency starting at 6 p.m. Thursday and lasting through September 5.

County officials stated that the extremely dry conditions have already caused a number of out-of-control grass and brush fires.

Only small campfires enclosed within a fire ring will be permitted according to county officials.

St. Lawrence County also added that the burn ban overrides any burn permits. However, fire departments are exempted from the order for organized training exercises.
