Among the 1,344 jars of jams, soups, dried fruit and more at the canning and dehydration exhibit at the Clark County Fair , there is a jar of toe jam.

Exhibition visitors are tasked with finding the toe jam — a bloody severed toe floating in blue liquid, and other Morticia Addams entries for a chance to enter a raffle for canning equipment. The task has only been made harder by the 219 percent increase in the number of first-time entrants since 2022.

Activities like this are a part of the effort Debbie Crawford, the exhibit’s superintendent, has created to promote and increase entries in the canning and dehydration exhibit.

“There’s nothing fun about looking at canned food, so we try to make it fun and interesting,” Crawford said.
