A woman aged in her nineties has been assaulted in Reading town centre.

The victim was sat on the benches around the back of M&S on Friar Street when an unknown woman approached her, hitting her across the face, causing her to fall off the bench.

The assault happened between 3.30pm and 4pm on Tuesday 5 August.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining an injury to her left eye socket and has since been discharged.

Investigating Officer, PC Ben Holdstock, said: “We are appealing for witnesses following this incident of assault on a woman in her nineties.

“An investigation has been launched, and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this assault or the moments leading up to it.
