Members of the Ontario Provincial Police’s west region laid 1,425 charges over the holiday weekend.

The OPP’s traffic campaign ran from Aug. 1 to Aug. 4 and targeted driving behaviours that contribute to traffic collision deaths, injuries, and property damage on roadways, including speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.

In Grey-Bruce, OPP members laid 57 charges for speeding, 26 for failing to wear a seatbelt, one for distracted driving, and three for impaired driving.

Throughout the West Region, 625 charges were laid for speeding, 148 for failing to wear a seatbelt, 10 for distracted driving, and 47 for impaired driving.
