In a Thursday email blast to all University of New Hampshire employees, UNH President Elizabeth S. Chilton informed staff that the university is eliminating 36 positions.

Twenty-three employees were laid off and 13 unfilled positions were eliminated. Another 10 employees had their hours reduced.

“We recognize how hard these changes are for individuals, teams, and the university as a whole, and are deeply grateful to the affected employees for their service,” Chilton said in the announcement.

Chilton said the staffing reductions are part of the university’s effort to cut its expenses by approximately $12 million, to achieve a 3% across-the-board spending reduction.
