East Hollywood & Historic Filipinotown -- The L.A. Department of Transportation has begun the first phase of a citywide effort to remove rush-hour travel lanes on some streets -- including sections of Beverly Boulevard and Melrose Avenue -- with low traffic volumes and restore parking during those hours. It's part of an effort to improve street safety and parking access, the department said.
While Phase 1 targets low-traffic corridors, future phases will look at higher-volume streets and may repurpose peak-hour lanes for bus-only lanes, protected bike lanes, or pedestrian zones, according to an LADOT press release issued on Wednesday. LADOT said it plans to conduct outreach and work with local communities as work moves forward on other streets.
