As the school year begins and temperatures continue to soar, keeping classrooms cool is a top priority for Albuquerque Public Schools. The district has taken a more proactive approach this year, starting cooling systems early and focusing maintenance efforts solely on A/C-related issues.

While most schools in the district still rely on swamp coolers, only about 30% have full central cooling systems. APS has changed its strategy when it comes to HVAC repairs, replacing failing units entirely instead of opting for temporary fixes. Though the new approach has increased repair budgets, it has led to fewer repeat work orders and better long-term system reliability.
