A baby boy with an extremely rare brain condition that was detected after a doctor commented on the size of his head is said to be "99% cured" thanks to pioneering surgery.

Conor O’Rourke, now three, was first spotted to have the 'one in a million' condition, vein of galen malformation (VOGM), during a routine check-up for a completely unrelated health concern.

The condition, which affects approximately 10 to 12 babies in the UK annually, causes the veins and arteries in the brain to connect abnormally.

Conor was around eight or nine months old when his mother, Lucy O’Rourke, 36, from Bolton , took him to an appointment for a potential umbilical hernia.
