A hot air balloon crashed into a primary school in Bristol on the first day of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta on Friday.

Footage showed the balloon hitting the roof of Oasis Academy Connaught, in Knowle West, at around 7.10am.

The balloon, emblazoned with the logo of the JLL real estate company, had been seen struggling to gain altitude.

The school, shut for summer holidays, is three miles from Ashton Court, where the balloons take off. The balloon’s basket was seen tipping on its side as those aboard tried to get it back into the air.

Stephanie, a 22-year-old resident who captured the moment, said: “I thought ‘that one is looking a bit low’ and pressed record. The basket was tilting – it looked like they were going to fall out. It must have been scary.”
