A 30-year-old Worcester man was found guilty of second-degree murder on Thursday for killing a man in the Central Massachusetts city in July 2020, prosecutors announced.
Leroy Thompson Jr. was convicted of the killing of Joshua Lopez, 24, of Worcester. Lopez died on July 6, 2020, a day after he was shot while sitting in the back seat of a car near Almont Avenue in Worcester. A child was in the car at the time of the shooting, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said in a statement.
The shooting came after an argument between Thompson and a group of people that included Lopez over the payment of a restaurant bill, according to a police report .
Thompson was also convicted of reckless endangerment of a child. He will be sentenced in Worcester Superior Court on Sept. 24,
