A damaged airplane, wounded passengers, a fleet of emergency vehicles and even a small fire were part of the Boise Airport ’s disaster response drill that took place in the morning hours on Thursday.

The drill known as the triennial exercise — or TriEx — is meant to test the airport as well as local safety agencies and their ability to respond in the event of an aircraft-involved accident.

The full-scale, multi-jurisdiction simulation is required to take place every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which provides varying guidelines according to the size of the airport.
