It's happened more than once this season, the movie industry hyping a competition between two titles. Probably “hoping” is a better word. It suggests business might get strong and as The Wrap put it might give the summer "one last jolt."
The two contenders this week and expected to be big are Weapons , the latest in the genre that's the fastest growing these days: horror, and Freakier Friday a sequel to a teen fantasy from 2003. In it a mother and daughter (Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan) swapped bodies for a day and do so again, now with a stepdaughter and daughter, respectively. It's a feel-good movie, apparently. I haven't seen it; the studio didn't preview it here but I do have Weapons and a new one with Eddie Murphy.
And more ...
