A routine call for help turned into a double discovery for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, thanks to the sharp nose of K9 Rickey.

On August 1, K9 Officer Munter and his partner, K9 Rickey, were requested to assist after a suspect fled from deputies and discarded a firearm during the chase. Once the suspect was taken into custody, Rickey was deployed to search the area where the weapon was believed to have been abandoned.

It didn’t take long for K9 Rickey to alert to something hidden beneath a pile of leaves. Officer Munter investigated and spotted the grip of a firearm — but that wasn’t all. A closer look revealed a second gun concealed alongside the first.

Authorities say both firearms were recovered and taken as evidence.
