Frank Lampard insists his Coventry City players are ready as they look to go one better than last season when they fell at the penultimate play-off hurdle.

But the Sky Blues boss is looking no further than the opening month of the 2025/26 campaign rather than setting any grand promotion ambitions at this stage of proceedings, with all the focus on bucking a frustrating trend from recent years.

“We start again off the back of what was a really positive season for us with a disappointing ending, obviously, which was very clear,” said the head coach, speaking ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Hull at the CBS Arena (12.30pm).

“But you have to move on in football and start again. It’s one of the beauties of it in a way. So we’re ready to go.”
