The costs of hiring a specialized firm to deal with goose poop along Sault Ste. Marie’s waterfront and hub trail will be referred to the 2026 budget.
Council is expected to receive a report Monday following a resolution passed last year asking staff to examine the cost and feasibility of a goose management plan.
Residents and visitors alike often have to dodge the droppings on the boardwalk, in city parks and near the St. Mary’s River while participating in recreational activities or leisurely strolls.
Geese with nests or young are also known to be aggressive towards humans and pets.
The city has adopted strategies recommended by Environment and Climate Change Canada for the management and population control of Canada geese, and curb interaction with humans on city property.
