THE Los Angeles Chargers suffered a devastating training camp injury to one of the team's best players.

Chargers offensive lineman Rashawn Slater's season is officially over after rupturing his patellar tendon.

During Thursday's practice, Slater went down with a noncontact injury.

He was doing a blocking rep against linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu when he collapsed.

"That's just something you don't want to see," Tuipulotu said.

"Not only Rashawn, but any of our players."

Slater instantly grabbed his left leg and training staff rushed over to assist him.

He tried to get to his feet, but couldn't put any weight on his leg.

Chargers teammates soon surrounded him as he was carted out of practice.
