A 6-year-old boy died after he was hit by a piece of farming equipment in Lancaster County Thursday afternoon, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police were sent around 3:30 p.m. to the area of Cherry Hill Road in Paradise Township after a report that a 6-year-old boy was injured.

Investigators found two boys, ages 6 and 14, were in a skid steer cleaning a barn. Police said the 6-year-old tried to exit the machine while the teen, who was the operator, lowered the machine’s arms, striking the child in the head.

The 6-year-old was transported to the Lancaster General Hospital where he later died as a result from his injuries.

The Lancaster County coroner’s office responded to the scene.
