DALLAS — While the population of North Texas is growing, leading to new healthcare facilities to accommodate the growth , rural hospitals and healthcare facilities in Texas and beyond are facing financial struggles, leading some to cut services and putting them at risk of closure.
The Associated Press recently reported that more than 20% of Americans live in rural areas, where Medicaid covers 1 in 4 adults.
And even that coverage could soon decrease: The National Rural Health Association and Manatt recently warned that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act would lead to cuts in Medicaid reimbursements for rural hospitals of nearly $70 billion over 10 years.
