EDDINGTON, Maine — A large fire destroyed a garage and a vehicle on Chestnut Lane in Eddington Thursday afternoon, but fire crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.

Firefighters from Eddington and Holden were dispatched at approximately 3:45 p.m. for a reported garage fire. A large column of smoke was visible from across the area when crews got to the scene, the Eddington Fire Department said in a social media post . A second alarm was quickly struck to bring in additional resources.

When crews arrived, they found a fully involved three-bay garage, a car burning in front of it, and a nearby brush fire that was spreading into the woods, the post stated. Several other vehicles and structures were threatened by the flames, officials said.
