A dramatic cloud formation spotted in Indianapolis has captivated viewers on TikTok .
The unusual giant cloud was captured in a viral clip posted by TikTok user @liz._.biz . The video shows several people on a sidewalk observing a massive pink-hued cloud hovering just above them.
Adam Douty, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, told Newsweek these clouds are known as mammatus clouds, which are "pouch-like formations that hang beneath thunderstorm anvils, commonly severe thunderstorms."
An anvil is the flat cloud formation at the top of the storm that forms when warm air rising reaches a point where the surrounding air is about the same temperature or even warmer, explains the National Severe Storms Laboratory of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
