HIGH POINT, N.C. — A pipe failure led to a wastewater spill of about 12,480 gallons on Thursday in High Point , with an estimated 3,400 gallons reaching state waters, city officials said.
The untreated wastewater entered an unnamed tributary of the Uwharrie River near 1525 Bethel Drive.
The Division of Water Quality was notified on Aug. 8 and is reviewing the incident. Residents with questions can contact the city’s Public Services Department at (336) 883-3215.
Under House Bill 1160, passed in 1999, municipalities and other operators of waste-handling systems must issue a public notice when spills of 1,000 gallons or more reach surface waters. This release was issued in compliance with that requirement.
