FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Action news was in the neighborhood as city leaders unveiled the name of a new park coming to southeast Fresno, but it's not without controversy.
The 49 acres located on Peach Avenue near Geary Street was donated to the city by the US Department of Agriculture back in 2006.
Part of the donation agreement was that the city converts the land into a park.
It sat vacant for two decades until this year.
''It's not just about having a green space," says Councilmember Brandon Vang. "It's about having a place to walk, to play, to feel safe and to connect with nature. We don't just want more parks. We need more parks.''
City leaders announced that the park will be named the Southeast Fresno Sports Complex.
