The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a suspect accused of robbing an acquaintance at gunpoint and then shooting a man who tried to intervene.

John Lopez, 45, was booked Thursday with attempted second-degree murder and armed robbery, said Sgt. Brandon Veal, spokesperson for the department.

The shooting occurred inside a home in the 2000 block of Manor Heights Drive on the night of July 29, according to Veal.

Lopez is accused of brandishing a gun and stealing property from a 29-year-old man, Veal said. A 47-year-old man stepped in, and that's when Lopez pointed the gun at him, according to Veal.

Lopez allegedly threatened to kill him and then opened fire. The man suffered a graze wound to his head. Lopez then ran from the house.
