KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Friday murder charges against a Blue Springs man in connection with the killing of a woman in Northeast Kansas City.

Arel Dawkins, 36, faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to court records, on Wednesday, Kansas City police were dispatched to a home on Morrell Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Braisen Cain, who was a teacher at the Academy for Integrated Arts in Kansas City.
