The U.S. Border Patrol has captured an Alabama murder suspect at the southern border of Texas and Mexico.

On July 7, 25-year-old Luis Rey Guerro Martinez was apprehended while attempting to escape to Mexico to avoid capital murder charges involving a murder in Bessemer on July 6.

According to 1819 News, Jefferson County Investigators responded to the 800 block of Willow Bend Lane, discovering Martinez’s brother-in-law dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Gumero Olvera Castro, the victim, and Martinez supposedly were involved in an argument that led to the alleged murder.

On August 5, Martinez was extradited to Jefferson County and placed in jail, where he remains without bond. The Hueytown resident was charged with capital murder in the presence of a child under 14.
