TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has removed some food and beverages from the Women, Infants and Children program's Approved Product List.
The WIC program provides free, healthy foods and personalized nutrition education, as well as breastfeeding support and referrals, to assist women and their children from pregnancy through 5 years of age. The goal of the WIC program, founded in the 1970s, was to help reduce high infant mortality rates and prevent birth defects and illnesses created by a lack of access to nutrition for pregnant women and young children.
