The job market softened in Sudbury last month, Statistics Canada said Friday.
The unemployment rate in Greater Sudbury was 5.7 per cent as of July 2025, up 0.3 per cent from the previous month, StatsCan reported.
More importantly, there were 600 fewer full-time jobs in July 2025 compared to a month earlier . Combined with a gain of 200 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 400 total jobs in July.
The unemployment rate stood 4.8 per cent below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.
Full-time employment was still down 600 jobs from the peak in June 2025.
The results locally reflected the national trend. The Canadian economy shed some 41,000 jobs in July as young workers and the private sector bore the brunt of the losses, Statistics Canada said.
