Peel Region Police are looking to start deploying first response drones for specific 911 calls.

In a statement to Global News on August 7, Deputy Chief Anthony Odoardi explained that the goal of this initiative was to “reduce response times and provide officers with real-time information before they arrive.”

Odoardi went on to specify that although the types of calls that would see this new initiative were still being finalized, he listed break-and-enter, auto thefts, and missing persons as possible options. He added that the initiative was still in the “planning and regulatory review phase,” with a limited test planned for the future that will assess the initiative’s operational value, cost, and impact on the community.
