Five Surrey students were among 20 B.C. teens chosen to receive hefty boosts to their post-secondary education goals.
Cmolik Foundation director Elisa Carlson announced Aug. 7 that Amrit Singh Basra (Enver Creek Secondary), Sharan Dhariwal (L.A. Matheson), Sean Yu-Xuan Miao (Fleetwood Park), Nanziba Islam (Frank Hurt) and Kamsiyochukw Okoye (Guildford Park) were each awarded a $50,000 scholarship.
The recipients were narrowed down from a list of more than 120 "impressive and inspiring" candidates who applied for the awards, which recognize the students' achievements in overcoming adversity and excelling in their studies, a news release states.
"The scholarship represents a life-changing opportunity for its recipients," the release adds.
