JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —It’s fair season, which of course means plenty of fun and food, but it’s also about FFA and 4-H members having the chance to show off their animals.
“It takes a lot of effort, and I can tell you from experience you can’t do it by yourself,” said Gus Dugan, competitor in the Jerome County fair swine show.
Months of raising pigs have all led up to this week, and a lot goes into these shows, said Dugan. There are three different classes of competition: market, breeding and showmanship.
“Market, you’re mostly looking at the animal, you’re looking at how that thing is structurally set up and if it’s made to be carrying that heavy carcass or down the road,” said Dugan. “Breeding, you’re looking at justice, that mothering ability, their hips, and making sure that the
