Traffic has been brought to a screeching halt on the A500 this afternoon following a 'big accident'. Witnesses say there are plumes of smoke emerging from the incident, which was reported at around 5.30pm this evening (August 8).

The accident has taken place on the A500 southbound near the Talke Pits roundabout, between the A34 and the A527.

One StokeonTrentLive reader said: "There's been a big accident on the A500 just now. You can see smoke coming from the scene. It happened between the A34 and the A527."

StokeonTrentLive has approached Staffordshire Police and the West Midlands Ambulance Service for an update.
